The Makeup Mistake That Was Worsening My Acne

The Makeup Mistake That Was Worsening My Acne

I used to make this ‘The Makeup Mistake That Was Worsening My Acne’ many years back:

As soon as I would see oil creeping on my face, I would reach for my compact and start dabbing the powder sponge on my face. I would dip the sponge in my compact, dab it on my face, dip it again (transferring oil from my face in the compact)and put it again on my face (mixing oil and powder and putting it on my face).

I did this 3 times a day. And then, I used to wonder why my makeup looks so cakey and also, doubted whether makeup suits my skin or not.

Fast forward few months later, I came across oil blotting sheets and realized about the makeup mistake I had been making- a mistake that wasn’t just ruining the look of my makeup but also one that was aggravating my acne.

Taking powder sponge straight from compact and applying to your face is unhygienic. You may think you’re fixing your oily face (like I used to) but you’re putting powder on top of your already oily skin and transferring that oil into your compact too! Eeks! What the heck was I doing then?

The ideal way to touch-up your makeup is by first using an oil blotting sheet to absorb excess oil. After you have done that, you can go for a touch-up using your compact. It makes sense, right?

That said, I hardly touch-up again using a compact when I’m in office. I use 2-3 oil blotting sheets at the most during the day. It’s only when I’m somewhere outside humid that I find myself reaching for my compact.

I told you mine! Now you please tell me yours o_O

I used to do this before and I got hell lots of breakouts. I figured out my mistake from those experience and now I first wash my face and then apply compact.

Awesome! I do wear foundation most of the times, so it’s not possible to remove it every time before going over with a compact. How many times do you wash your face a day?

I’ve recently discovered an awesome combo for acne. Works for me atleast. I get a bit of hormonal acne every couple of weeks. I’ve started applying a thin later of honey mixed with a few drops of neem oil on it. In fact, I usually just pull my hair back and put it all over the face, if possible.

It feels icky at first… but soon dries down though still stays pretty tacky. I wash it off after 30 mins or more. (I leave it on for as long as I can….. even a couple of hours) and it shows almost instant results.

    Give it a try!

      Hey Mansi,

Thank you for sharing this. I’m so glad it works for you. My acne has reduced to a considerable extent after adopting good lifestyle changes. Next time, I’m attacked by it, I might give this a try.

What brand honey and neem oil do you use?
