Maybelline Velvet Matte Lip Color ‘MAT 4’ Review and Swatches

in Lips, Lipstick, Reviews on 04/11/15

Finally I wrote one 😛

Product description:
“Hydrating cream color glides on smooth and sets with a matte finish; vibrant, richly-pigmented hues are designed for long wear; lightweight, non-sticky, non-drying formula; velvety, cushion-like texture keeps lips in comfort all day”

My experience with it:
The main reason why I was excited to lay my hands on these velvet matte lip colors from Maybelline was because I thought they will help me flaunt matte lips without breaking my bank. But turns out these are creamy lip colors! However, the bad news ends here!

Moving on, these are packed in a plastic tube and as you can see, the packaging is same as that of the color sensational lip glosses. The shade number is mentioned at the bottom of the lip color. The sponge based applicator has the shape of a tear drop. As I said before, it does not have a matte finish. The finish is glossy which transforms to a semi velvet finish after an hour or so. The texture is comfortable to wear and it does not feel heavy on lips. Although those who aren’t used to glosses might find it a little heavy. I need two coats of it to cover my lips fully but it goes on smoothly. However do note that it can emphasize lip lines with the passage of time. It’s best to wear it on moisturized lips. It’s well pigmented although I wonder if it will cover pigmented lips fully.

I am glad that it stays on for long given its hydrating texture. Even after a full meal, a lot of color is still left on lips. Gladly it also stains mildly. This means less trip for a quick touch-up to avoid the weird ombre lips situation.  I also love using it as a blush.

I agree with almost all the points Maybelline claims for in the product description except for of course their matte claim. I so wish it was true!
Refer the first lip swatch picture and hand swatch for accurate shade.

Price: Rs.475
Quantity: 5ml
VCB Rating: 3.75/5 (The rating would have been higher if it didn’t had velvet matte title. Sigh! Just when we thought someone listened to us!)

I think this is a perfect lip product for those who love matte lips because of their high staying power but despise wearing them in cold seasons because they get uncomfortable. I actually feel that I will buy one more shade i.e. MAT10!
Have you tried these?
