Skincare Routine For Oily Acne Prone Skin In India

Simple skincare routine for oily acne prone skin in India

When I was new to the world of skincare, I purchased products with the intention of putting a stop to my oily skin. I was wrong. I have a super oily skin and even the best products can only help me minimize the shine and not eliminate it. I suggest you to take the same approach when shopping for skin care products for your oily skin. The more gentle you’re, the better it behaves.

Below is a list of the steps you can include in your skincare routine for oily acne prone skin. I haven’t given a rigid skincare routine and instead, have offered options so that you add and subtract according to your preferences as well as needs.

A gentle face wash

5-6 years back, I used to believe those advertisements that said this particular face wash would keep me skin oil-free all day long. What I did not realize was that I was actually making my oily skin oilier.

This is because in order to compensate for the loss of the moisture caused by harsh ingredients, my skin would end up producing more oil. More pimples also.

As a result of using a harsh face wash for years, my skin today is oily yet dehydrated (oily and dry in the same place). It’s a lot better now from the time I switched to gentle cleansers.

My favourite is Kama Ayurveda mridul soap free cleanser. Forest Essentials kashmiri saffron cleanser and Dove beauty moisture face wash come close.

Another recent one I have been liking is Kama Ayurveda sensitive skin cleansing foam.

A sunscreen

Finding the best sunscreen for oily skin in summer can be a difficult feat but once you do, you have achieved an important step in your skincare routine. Come rain or shine, always wear it.

I used Lotus matte gel sunscreen for years but it stopped suiting my skin some months back. This made me look for more options. Currently, I’m using La Shield oil free SPF40 sunscreen which does the job well.

A light-weight moisturizer

Yes, even people with oily skin need a moisturizer. This is a very important part of skincare routine for oily acne prone skin.

Once you find the right one, you will realize that it doesn’t add to the oiliness on your face. Pick one that has a light-weight texture, blends in a jiffy and doesn’t cause breakouts on your skin.

It’s important for helping your skin behave well as well as for proper foundation application.

I did a post on the best moisturizers for oily acne prone skin in India. Pick one according to your needs. If you have an oily skin type prone to dehydration, you will need something extra. Clinique moisture surge extended thirst relief gel is an excellent option. You can also try ordinary hyaluronic acid serum for a budget-friendly option.

Exfoliator

An exfoliator is used to remove dead surface skin cells.

Since I have an oily sensitive skin, I maintain distance from those scrubs with harsh particles. Most of them don’t suit my skin.

I like AHAglow face wash which contains glycolic acid and does the job well. Currently, I’m using Klaire’s sugar scrub which does a very good job at removing dry flakes from face. I use them 2 times a week.

Face pack

‘Multaani mitti’ is one of my must have skin care products for oily acne prone skin in India

Mixed with water, it is the best homemade face pack for acne prone skin. It’s cheap and works! One of the cheapest yet effective step in your skincare routine for oily acne prone skin.

If you are lazy to prepare it, you can also check out Auravedic ritual skin lightening mask. Feel free to ignore the skin lightening claims. Leaving it, the mask works amazingly well to reduce pimples as well as tan. I’m on my 3rd jar right now. Agian,

Pimple spot treatment cream

Funny but true how pimples decide to attack my skin just some days before I have a major event to attend. Therefore, it’s helpful to have a pimple spot treatment as an emergency aid. This should not be a daily part of skincare routine for oily acne prone skin.

I like Cindamycin Phosphate and Nicotinamide gel. It works quickly and reduces the size of pimples in 2-3 days. I don’t use it every time the uninvited guests decide to visit my skin. Only if I have a function to attend. Otherwise, I use just multaani mitti and get more careful about my diet.

This one was recommended to me by my dermatologist years ago.

Price in India: Don’t remember but probably less than Rs.100.

Sheet mask

I’m not a big fan of sheet masks as most of them don’t suit my oily sensitive skin. Also, the effects are very short-lived for the price they come at. I use them but only when my oily skin starts getting dehydrated (usually with change in weather).

The ones I use are Innisfree Hyaluronic acid sheet mask and Mondsub Hyaluronic acid instant cool moisturizing sheet mask. The Mondsub one is awesome! It leaves my skin feeling silky soft and boosts the hydration level in my skin for a few days.

Price in India: Rs.499 for 4 sheets. Available on Amazon.

Micellar water

Washing face using a face wash more than twice a day usually leaves my oily skin feeling stretchy.

For girls, it gets more bothersome. What if I want to get rid of oil on my face completely but don’t want to spoil my eyeliner? Using a face wash doesn’t work.

Micellar water works! It works brilliantly!

It’s a no-rinse cleansing option and removes dirt, oil and light makeup from face. On days, I have to go for an outing directing from my office, this is what I use on my face. It leaves skin feeling fresh. Then, I carry on with my usual routine of makeup before heading out.
