How To Conceal Dark Circles Using Affordable Products

Hiding dark circles is one of the best ways to fake a good night’s sleep. But for many, it isn’t easy. For those with light-moderate dark circles, a concealer with a medium-full coverage is mostly suffice. But those who have heavy dark circles, need a corrector to cancel that darkness and not make concealer look ashy. No doubt, these two products are the stars of this tutorial. If you’ve been a long time reader of my blog, you’ll know my love for reasonably priced products. I love how the right ones work beautifully without breaking my bank or face. So, without further ado, let me explain how to conceal dark circles using affordable products:

  1. Since concealer always looks better when applied on moisturized skin, make sure to apply an eye cream/gel/serum first. Choose one with a light-weight texture that gets absorbed completely and quickly. This step will make the blending process easier.
  2. Apply the corrector i.e. Kryolan supra color 303 under your eyes and in the inner corners too. Using your ring finger or a damp sponge, start patting. The orange tint will be visible and yes, that’s okay. Start with little quantity. You can always add an extra layer if you feel the need of doing so. Remember: Put it only on the most shadowed parts of your under-eye area. Don’t go crazy with it (like I did the first time) lest it makes your under-eye area stand out more.
  3. Take your trusted concealer and (again) apply it only on the most shadowed parts of your under-eye area. This will help you avoid a cakey application as well as prevent a horrible build-up after some hours have gone by. Keep tapping until it has blended. I use a damp sponge.
  4. Give it a minute to set and now, dust some translucent powder on top of it to lock it in place.

Please see: I apply a light layer of foundation over my concealer and then, powder. This step is optional.

Kryolan Supra Color 303

Some things to note:

– This corrector shade works well for black or greenish dark circles. I tried a salmon tone corrector once and it didn’t work on me. If you’ve a dark complexion, you may want to try an extra dark orange based corrector like Kryolan brush on concealer in shade 6. It works well even for me but with Kryolan supra color 303, the job is easier.

– I use this corrector only when I have done smokey eyes to make my under-eye area look really clean. Since I don’t have major dark circles (In pics, I chose a bad angle to make them look noticeable), NYX HD concealer is enough for me on most days as it has a strong yellow tint. After I’ve applied it, I first follow up with my foundation over it and then, top off with powder. So, figure out if you do really need a corrector or just a concealer with extra coverage.

– Choosing a concealer lighter than your skin tone and applying it in a triangle shape works well only when you balance out the effect by contouring your face. Otherwise, the result is unnatural which negates the whole point of using a concealer.

– Please go only with powders that are translucent or yellow-toned. If you don’t have loose powder, try setting with L’oreal Mat magique all in one transforming powder. Tried and tested.

– Figuring out the quantity of corrector and concealer to be used will take a few trials and errors.
