New Lakme 9 to 5 primer matte lip color: Review, swatches

Someone told me raved about a shop some days back which had a really cool collection of bags. When I visited it, I actually liked some bags after a long time which were in my budget too but something felt incomplete. No doubt, the shop had a good collection but since my friend talked so much about it, it felt kind of a let-down. That’s the problem with hyped products or products that make a lot of claims but don’t fulfil them. For me, these new Lakme 9 to 5 primer matte lip colors are one of those. They aren’t bad but the claims left me longing for so much more.

For a precision pro matte finish, line your lips with the Lakme 9 to 5 lip liner before applying the Lakme 9 to 5 primer matte lip color

My experience with Lakme 9 to 5 primer matte lip colors:

Packaging: Both the lip colors come in a cardboard packaging which carry details like shade name, number, expiry date, price, etc. The actual Lakme 9 to 5 primer matte lip colors come in a rose gold packaging with the shade name mentioned at the bottom. An annoying part for me here is that the cap for the shade “Blush Book” is tight, super tight. I cringe when I think that one day I’ll be pulling the cap forcefully and the lipstick will fly in the air. *Heart attack* Okay! Let’s pray it shouldn’t happen.

Texture: The new Lakme 9 to 5 primer matte lip colors feel very light-weight and go on smoothly. I have noticed that the texture of “Blush book” is better than “Rosy mind”. I do get that silicone-ish and smooth feeling with these as I get when I apply a primer on my face but that’s it. I don’t think the primer adds something extra-ordinary to these. With most lipsticks that have a demi-matte finish, the lip lines don’t look as pronounced as they can and same is the case with these ones. This primer plus lipstick thing seems just another marketing gimmick to me.

One thing to take care of is to not press your lips because it gets patchy then and the first layer gets picked up thereby removing the color from some places.

Finish: Demi-matte which won’t parch your pout.

Pigmentation: While the color payoff isn’t fully opaque, they do pack a punch of color even on pigmented lips. The colors on lips look the same as they do on the bullet.

Staying power: In terms of wear time, they are good- not spectacular, not 12 hours but good. They do transfer easily but a lot of color is still left on the lips. Depending on what you drink and eat, they can last anywhere between 4-5 hours. Since they fade unevenly and get messy after eating, I like to remove the whole lipstick before re-applying. Isn’t a primer supposed to prevent the mess?

Summary:

The new Lakme 9 to 5 primer matte lip colors glide on lips very smoothly, cover the natural  color of lips quite well and do not emphasize mild dry patches. By no means, they can last for 12 hours. That’s still okay but flaking after having a meal is always a deal-breaker for me. These aren’t something I will reach for on a normal day.

I like the Lakme enrich lip crayons better than these.
