Part-2 to basic makeup kit for beginners in India

Some time back, I did a basic makeup kit for beginners in India, part-1, which talks about essential beauty and makeup products on a beginner level. It’s always good to start with a few products rather than buying too much and then, feeling overwhelmed. The “Part-1” consisted of very basic stuff which as a beginner of course looks confusing. I remember having such a tough time mastering my base makeup as a beginner and the main reason behind that was because I wasn’t moisturizing and prepping my skin properly. So, don’t forget to take care of your skin as the better it behaves, the better your makeup looks.

Let’s get started with the Part-2 of the basic makeup kit for beginners in India.

Mascara

In part-1 of basic makeup kit for beginners in India, eye makeup consisted only of eyeliners and kajals. I did not include mascara then because it’s one of the things that looks real easy to apply but is actually difficult. You don’t just pull out the wand from the tube, start coating your eye lashes with it and say “I’m done!”. It takes just one sneeze and a shaky hand to mess it up.. as if learning to apply eyeliner and kajal wasn’t enough.

Assuming you have now learned to apply them, it’s time to take your eye makeup game a step ahead with mascaras. When I did a post on how to make small eyes look bigger, I mentioned how mascara helps in doing that. It’s not something I use every day as I have very weak eye lashes. But on days I do, my eye makeup looks definitely pulled together.

My favourite in the affordable category has to be the Lakme eyeconic mascara. It separates my eyelashes properly and with the powder mascara trick, it volumizes my lashes too pretty well. You can buy it in the black as well as the blue variant. The only thing to take care here of is that you should powder your under-eye area well when wearing it otherwise it can smudge a bit on that area. What I do is pick some powder using a damp sponge and then, press it gently on my under-eye area after applying my foundation. Then, I proceed to apply mascara. As a beginner, you can obviously skip applying it on lower eye lashes.

Light-medium coverage foundation

Part-1 consisted of base products with light coverage. Maybe, now you can move on to foundations, particularly ones that have a buildable coverage in this Part-2, basic makeup kit for beginners in India. You can opt for a light coverage for daily wear and add an extra layer on days you want more out of it.

As much as I love powder/liquid blushes, I also like using lipsticks as blushes. Cost-saving, time-saving and easy to touch-up too. Yay!

You can get away without blushes with a light coverage base but anything more than that, you should always use a blush. Otherwise your face looks artificial. This is because foundations take away the natural contours of the face and make it look flat. Blush brings back life to your face.

Lip colors

I know some women who aren’t into much makeup but love their bright lipsticks. Choosing what shade you want to go for in a lip color depends on your comfort zone. You can start with everyday lipstick shades, everyday bright lipstick shades and simply, go with the loud ones.

Avon lipstick Peach Petunia is one beautiful bright shade that’s subtle at the same time. I love such shades as the intensity helps me go from a day to a night look.

Brushes

A powder brush and a blush brush will be more than enough at this stage. You can check out this affordable rose gold brush set from Amazon which I reviewed some time back.

If you find a good blush brush with soft bristles at your local store but find it big for your face shape, you can adjust the shape a bit by pinching it with your fingers. Or you can tie a rubber band around it to squeeze the bristles. Work with what you have and can afford if something looks out of your budget. But always consider the long run factor when purchasing stuff.

Why I didn’t include foundation tools and primer in this basic makeup kit for beginners in India, Part-2

They should act more as extra tools rather than crippling you. In my opinion, one should know how to use foundation using hands first. This will also help you determine in the later stage when you start using a sponge/brush as to what you find better.

The same goes for the primer. See for a month as to how your foundation behaves/interacts with your skin without it. When you buy it later, you will be able to spot a difference (if any) and determine whether you need it. Of course, you will need to try different ones to figure than one out. Makeup isn’t a “one size fits all” thing.
