Colourpop Creme Gel Liners: Review, Swatches

The last brand I saw creating a buzz everywhere was the original beauty blender. I’m not saying that only Colourpop has been the one after it to catch everyone’s attention but I see its products doing rounds everywhere. Even after 3 years, it’s still the talk of the makeup town. So, when Colorpop announced international free shipping over 50$ some time back, I did what I had to. It took me a month to fit my wish list in 50$ because anymore than that would have meant inviting the wrath of customs department in India.

When the courier guy came to deliver this and told that there was a parcel for me from Colourpop, I froze a bit. The reason being I was expecting some custom fees. I’m sure he saw the fear in my eyes and must have thought there’s an explosive in the box. So, when he left without asking for any custom fees, I was shocked. I locked the door and decided I won’t be opening it in case he returns and tells that he forgot to collect the charges.

Now, say hello to my Colourpop creme gel liners!

All the liners come in a white cardboard packaging with the brand name, product category, shade name and other necessary details mentioned on it. The gel liners have a color coded body at the bottom and come with a twist-up mechanism to avoid product wastage. When I was going through the packaging, I was like ‘They are going to get full points on packaging’. That was before I started testing them.

Here’s the glitch with the Colourpop creme gel liners in shades ‘Fast Lane’ and ‘Over Board’:

As I started applying these two particular ones, I felt the tip of the eyeliner moving left and right. That’s when I realized that they are weak from the base and therefore, not moving in a straight direction. Add to it the weak pigmentation and dry texture of ‘Fast Lane’ which naturally makes me apply a bit more pressure than I usually do. The end result of it being it keeps breaking. You can judge by the crumbly swatch picture of it as to how difficult it was for me to show the shade with the tip consistently breaking. I had to take the broken tip and roll it over to show the shade on my arm.

With ‘Over Board’, the situation is not that bad. Since it has a very smooth texture and also, gives an opaque coverage in two swipes, I didn’t face a major issue with applying it. Of course, I had to be careful with the pressure I was exerting while applying it but thankfully it went on nicely. It stays for over 7 hours on my super oily eyelids with minimal fading. The formula does break a bit from the outer corners of my eyes but nothing major. It’s a beautiful pearly bronze shade. Quite similar to a shade I own from Bourjois.

Get Paid: My favourite! No defects in packaging, soft texture, good pigmentation and stays for the longest. It does take 2-3 minutes to set. I have also worn this on my lower lash line without facing any irritation. And the shade! A true metallic rose gold *_* Oh! I love colored eyeliners for instantly changing a look!

Verdict:

It’s the small things that make a lot of difference. This gets particularly true with Colourpop creme gel liners. The defect in the packaging in two shades ‘Fast lane’ and ‘Over board’ is quite a turn off. Even though the shades are beautiful, it’s sad that I don’t find myself reaching for them often due to the difficulty level involved in applying them. I’m glad that ‘Get Paid’ has no such issues. What has been your experience with Colourpop creme gel liners?

 UPDATE: SO, ALL OF THEM ARE PRETTY USELESS AS THE PENCIL KEEPS ON BREAKING. SO ANNOYING!!
