If there’s one product category I wish drugstore brands came up with in India, it’s loose powder. It’s not very glam but once you find your perfect match, you will be surprised by how much difference it makes for you. Since they have smaller particles, they usually give a light-weight coverage- best especially for heavy makeup.

So, when I found out that Lakme (Apna Lakme!) has launched a new loose powder, I went berserk! When I received it, I was too happy! So, did my happiness touch a level higher or vanished after using it? You will soon find out!

My experience with Lakme 9 to 5 naturale finishing powder:

Before I begin with my review, I’ll like to mention that while a setting powder is used after makeup to mattify skin a finishing powder on the other hand is used to reduce the skin texture by blurring lines and powder. It’s used as a last step in makeup and hence, the name ‘finishing powder’. However, both the terms (like finishing and setting sprays) are used interchangeably now.

The packaging of Lakme 9 to 5 naturale finishing powder is gorgeous! The rose gold and green combination looks like a match made in heaven. It comes with an applicator too. But I’m too used to beauty sponges to use anything else now.

The powder goes on smoothly and is very easy to even out. Also, it feels very soft against the skin.

When I swatched the powder at the back of my hand, I got a bit sad. The reason being the powder has a very fine sheen to it. Fine but sheen nonetheless! My super oily skin already has a natural sheen to it and I wasn’t keen on adding something that brings it out even more. You won’t sparkle under the sun (Like Edward Cullen) with it on your face though 😛

I decided to switch off my brain’s overthinking mode and instead, use it on face. After I was done with my foundation, I applied it using a damp beauty blender.

Oh no!

While it didn’t alter the color of my foundation, my zoomed in eyes could see it emphasizing the texture of my skin, especially the pores on my cheeks. I still decided to remain calm and see how well it controls oil as per the claims made. My skin was back to being oily in less than an hour.

So, from the next day onwards, I decided to test it out with my long wear foundations. I would wear this on one half of my face and Innisfree and Laura Mercier loose powder on the other half (alternatively).

I wore it for a week and there was only one day when it didn’t disappoint me when it came to oil control part. That was the day when it had rained in Delhi. So, the weather was pleasant. It’s only on this day that the powder controlled oil on my skin for 5-6 hours. Definitely not the best face powder for oily acne prone skin in India

Some days, I would move my face from left to right in different lightings and would see something silverish sitting on top of my cheeks area.

I definitely don’t recommend this to people with oily skin or people with large pores/heavily textured skin.

The only silver lining I see here?

If you find most powders too dry and think they leave your skin looking like a sahara desert, try it at the store. Wear it for 2-3 hours at least and see how it looks as well as performs on your skin.
