Lakme 9 To 5 Naturale Aloe Aqua Gel Review

Lakme 9 to 5 naturale aloe aqua gel review

An aloe vera gel from Lakme for 50gm which costs Rs.200! Quite a pricey affair!

I have only tried three aloe vera gels till date- the original one, Patanjali aloe vera gel (left my skin stretchy) and Green leaf pure aloe vera gel. I sort of have a love-hate relationship with aloe vera based skincare products. Let’s see how this new launch ‘Lakme 9 to 5 naturale aloe aqua gel’ works for my skin type.

Product description:

Swap your regular primer with Lakme 9 to 5 naturale aloe aqua gel and enjoy non-sticky, hydrated skin all day long.

Nourish your skin, especially if it’s stressed, with the goodness of aloe vera. This lightweight and non-sticky gel gives a soothing effect, provides the perfect base for makeup and protects your skin from daily and harsh exposure to city pollution. Ideal for all skin types, it’s the perfect solution to get that fresh and glowing look, especially on no makeup days.

My experience with Lakme 9 to 5 naturale aloe aqua gel:

I love the gorgeous packaging. Lakme 9 to 5 naturale aloe aqua gel has a rose gold twist-off cap. All information including product description, ingredients list and expiry date is given. The actual product has a rose gold cap and comes in a semi-transparent small jar. It is very light-weight and you can easily toss it in your purse.

Coming to the performance, Lakme 9 to 5 naturale aloe aqua gel has a light gel-based texture and gets in absorbed quickly. It has a scented smell which I think could have been avoided. I checked the skincare ingredients and saw ‘perfume’ as one of them. There is no stickiness at all. It leaves a matte finish on my skin and does improve how my skin feels temporarily. However, this is what I noticed after 3 days of applying it: After some 30 minutes, my skin would feel a bit  stretchy and tight. This happened especially when I was in an air conditioned environment.

The usual case with pure aloe vera gels is that they tend to leave the skin in a drier state because alone, they don’t help in retaining moisture on skin. A humectant like Glycerine (present in this product) helps bind water and increase its performance. That said, using it alone didn’t help my skin much. I had to follow up with another moisturizer to prevent dryness on my cheeks and forehead and keep using another hydrating product in between.

People with dehydrated/combination-dry skin type will definitely need to follow up with a cream to lock in the water content that helps hydrate skin. If you have an oily acne prone skin type (not prone to dehydration), you might love Lakme 9 to 5 naturale aloe aqua gel for its non-greasy properties.

That said, I couldn’t use this aloe gel beyond a week. The reason being I saw tiny breakouts erupting beneath the surface of my face after 5-6 days. So, I stopped using it. I gave my skin a break from this but still decided to test it out again after 3 days. This time, I had two pimples! I can’t say for sure the reason behind this but I’m guessing my skin doesn’t agree well with perfumed skincare products.

I still find Lotus alpha moist moisturizer a lot better than this- Both quality and quantity-wise. It’s one of my top 10 moisturizers for oily acne prone skin in India.
