Is the Rs.2,000 priced beauty blender worth the hype?

I was in the same boat as many others back in 2013 when I fell down the ‘original beauty blender’ rabbit hole. Is it a good place to be? Yes! Does it really make a difference? On dehydrated, not-so-funny skin type- a massive one! What about the maintenance costs? Are they worth it? For me, it’s a yes for the original beauty blender pro. Keep reading to find out why I’m in love with it so much.

My experience with the original beauty blender pro

When did I first purchase it: Back in 2013 (I think in December)

Which beauty blender did I buy first: The pink one.

What made me switch to the black one: It was annoying to see the stains on the pink one. Nothing else apart from that.

What made you switch to a beauty blender from a buffing brush: Years of harsh acne medications and the top skincare mistakes I made as a beginner led to dry patches on my oily skin i.e. dehydrated skin. A buffing brush creates a micro-exfoliating action on skin, thereby, exaggerating dry patches. Not an ideal choice for people with dry skin type or for a skin type prone to getting dry patches. This original beauty blender pro on the other hand makes way for a seamless application even with a thick cream based foundation. Instead of emphasizing the dry patches on skin, it minimizes their look- sometimes, even hide(depending on their intensity). Just like the buffing brush, it hides my pores beautifully.

Any problem you faced while switching from a buffing brush to a beauty blender: Devoting more time. Working with a buffing brush is much quicker as compared to working with a beauty blender. That’s it. Of course, the maintenance costs too which I’ll talk more about down below.

What’s so special about the original beauty blender pro: It gives a beautiful, almost pore-less finish. Especially helpful for those who are new to base makeup and struggle with getting a smooth finish. All you have to do is apply your base on face and then, bounce this damp beauty blender on your face to be left with an even and smooth finish. Also, it feels very soft on the skin. I love the springy action..hehe!

Did I like it in first go?

Yes and no, both. Yes for how flawless the application was and no for it created a somewhat dewy application (a mismatch for my oily skin). But once I got the hang of exactly how much to use it damp, I didn’t face that problem again.

Does it lessen the coverage? Is the coverage buildable?

It does lessen the coverage but only to a very little extent. The answer to the other question is very tricky as it also depends what foundation you’re using. If the coverage of your foundation isn’t buildable, you can’t really expect the beauty blender to do all the job.

Do you find yourself going through more bottles of foundation with it?

No- But again, depends on the formula of the foundation. Using it with a foundation that is light-sheer coverage doesn’t make sense to me.

What else do you use it for?

To set powder on my face and for baking my under-eye area. Sometimes, to blend a cream contour based product.

Is owing a beauty blender a necessity?

No. If you have a flawless skin type to begin with, you can easily skip it. If you have an oily and textured skin, you can try the Real techniques buffing brush which is a more economical option. It works brilliantly too. But if you have an oily skin prone to getting dry patches or a dry skin type, please try this original sponge. I’m all for affordable purchases but this one is just amazing!

What about the maintenance costs?

I do not use a beauty blender on a regular basis. Not because I’m frugal but because I use a light layer of foundation on a daily basis and my fingers do the job well (MAC sponge too). I use BB like once or twice a week. I wash it properly the very day I use it, most of the times just after I have used it and done with my makeup routine. I don’t feel the need to repurchase before 6 months. So, that’s 2 beauty blenders for me twice a year.

From where do I get my supply of beauty blenders?

From camerareadycosmetics.com. The shipping rate depends on the weight of your package. I live in Delhi, India and try not exceeding the price above 50$ to avoid any special attention from the customs department. When I bought just a beauty blender once, the total cost including shipping came to Rs.1900. Pretty good, right? My package is delivered to me within 15-25 days.
