How To Do Makeup For Round Face Shape

Hey everyone!

Today, I would be sharing some tips and tricks that work for people having round face shape.

There’s no denying that although a round face gives the illusion of having a younger look than what your actual age is (hmph), it can be really irritating at times for having to deal with fuller cheeks and also fuller jawline. A person having round face shape doesn’t have defined features.

So, what are the tricks for doing makeup for a round face shape?

The biggest makeup trick for round face is contouring. Unless you learn contouring for your round face, all other makeup tricks lie at bay. They won’t help you achieve the slim face look which contouring with and benefit you the most.

So, let me start with the techniques one by one :-

CONTOURING:

You will need to define your cheekbones by shading contour powder underneath your cheekbones. Suck in your cheekbones and start applying the contour shade lightly and blending it nicely. Contour shade should also be applied along the jawline and along the temples. Please refer to this diagram to get more detailed information. You will notice a large difference if you contour your face the right way.

HIGHLIGHTING:

You highlights those features that you want to bring light on. Highlighter should be applied on the top of cheekbones, on the centre of the forehead, your under eye area, on the eyebrow area and lightly on the tip of the jawline. This along with contouring would help in giving round face a more defined look.

EYEBROWS:

Believe it or not, but having a little high arch in eyebrows on round face works wonders. This is because the eyes appear large and the face kinds of gets a lift.

EYELINER TRICK:

It’s recommended that women having round face shape should always apply eyeliner going outwards.  This is a trick of making your eyes stand out. I have hardly noticed Aishwarya Rai not sporting this eyeliner technique.

BLUSH:

For applying blush, you need to start applying blush from a little downwards on the apple of your cheeks and extending it upwards in a vertical effect. This would help your round face in giving a length.

PRODUCTS YOU CAN USE:

First, you need to determine whether your skin is dry or oily. If your skin is dry, its best to go in for liquid/cream products whereas if your skin is oily, its best to go in for powder based products. It’s also best to avoid shimmer based products if you have oily skin as that would only contribute more to the oiliness.

For contour shade, you can use:

–        Foundation/Concealer/Powder two times darker than your skin tone.

–        You can even use compact two times darker than  your skin tone.

–        You may also buy contour kit. Make sure the contour shade goes with your warm/cool/neutral skin tone.

For highlighter shade, you can use:

–        A highlighter concealer with illuminating particles. Maybelline is a good choice for that since it’s not over the top.

–        A concealer/powder/compact that is two times lighter than your skintone.

–        A sheen based powder highlighter can also work for oily skin.

I have heard that “Bronzing” too works well with round face shape but since I have little idea about it, I’ll skip it.

P.S.: Again, I’m no expert. But I like to give my two cents which have been helpful to me in my makeup journey. I don’t have a round face shape but my friend has, on whom I experiment for studying round face shape tricks.
